When Your Dog Is Sick on a Wool Rug (And the Cushion Covers...)
There are few things worse than waking up to discover your dog has been sick on your favourite rug.
That's exactly what happened in our house recently.
Unfortunately, it wasn't just the rug. A wool rug and one of the sofa cushion covers had both taken the full force of the accident. It gave us an unexpected opportunity to test two Fibre Technology products in exactly the kind of situation they were designed for.
The Wool Rug
The rug was made from wool, which immediately limits what you should use.
Many household cleaners rely on high alkalinity or aggressive detergents that can damage wool fibres, dull colours or leave residues behind.
Instead, we treated the affected area using FS.07 Wool & Cashmere Care.
After gently removing the excess soiling, the cleaner was sprayed onto the affected area and lightly worked into the fibres before blotting with a clean cloth.
The result was exactly what we'd hoped for.
The contamination lifted cleanly from the fibres, the rug dried evenly, and there was no visible staining or damage to the wool.
The Cushion Covers
The cushion covers were removable, so these went straight into the washing machine.
Rather than using a conventional biological detergent, we washed them using D.S.02 Upholstery Fabric Detergent at 40°C.
After a single wash cycle, the results were excellent.
There was no remaining trace of the soiling, no lingering staining, and the fabric came out looking exactly as it should.
Why Different Products?
Although both products clean fabrics, they're designed for very different jobs.
FS.07 Wool & Cashmere Care is intended for delicate natural fibres that can't simply be thrown into a washing machine. It provides controlled cleaning while respecting the unique structure of wool.
D.S.02 Upholstery Fabric Detergent is formulated for removable upholstery fabrics, cushion covers and similar washable textiles where deep cleaning during a machine wash is required.
Using the right product for each fabric gives the best possible chance of removing difficult contamination while preserving the material itself.
